Students in
Top 3 For Investment Earnings
A team of Boise State University College of Business and Economics finance students, under the direction of marketing and finance professor Keith Harvey, earned a 27.7 percent return from Sept.1, 2002, through Aug. 31, 2003, on an initial investment of $50,000, according to D.A. Davidson.
Boise State placed third out of 18 schools that participate in the D.A. Davidson investment project. The company contributed $50,000 about eight years ago to Boise State and 17 other schools. The company keeps track of rates of return earned by the schools and publishes it annually.
Harvey worked with students in Finance 460 - Asset Allocation and Security Selection to determine investment strategies. The students are: David Blacker, Brian Buch, Joe Giberman, Cory Jakobson, Julie Johnson, Nick Leonardson, Bruno Marques and Bob Paris.
“The students did outstanding work and that was evidenced by the results,” Harvey said.
The average return for participating schools was 13.2 percent. Other participants include: Brigham Young University and University of Utah, who were the top two finishers; University of Oregon, Utah State University, University of Washington, Washington State University, University of Idaho and University of Wyoming.
