Each fall and spring semester, the Department of Marketing and Finance offers one course in real estate as an elective course for Boise State students: Finan 201 - Fundamentals of Real Estate. We also welcome community members who wish to take the course to partially fulfill requirements for a real estate license.
The College of Business and Economics no longer offers a major in real estate nor do we offer courses in real estate appraisal. However, students may be able to take the course they need from other area providers.

Finan 201 Fundamentals of Real Estate, 3 credits. Essentials of real estate practice, sales, financing, land descriptions, investments, brokerage, advertising, market analysis, and fundamentals arising from real estate transactions. No prerequisites.
The Department of Marketing and Finance offers this course each fall and spring semester on Thursday evenings from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. or 7:00 - 10:00 p.m., depending upon current scheduling practices. For course beginning and ending dates, see the University calendar. You must apply and be admitted to Boise State University to take the course, so be sure to check application deadlines.
Note: The Idaho Real Estate Commission has broken their Fundamentals course into two modules. We have chosen not to do so. Be sure to check with the Commission to see how our Finan 201 course will fit into the Commission's most recent licensing requirements.
Mike Loegering, now retired, was a real estate appraiser for more than 15 years and a real estate broker for more than 30 years. He has taught real estate classes for Boise State University for many years.

Fees and Textbooks back to top
Tuition and fees generally change each fall semester. Students who take fewer than 7 credits will pay the per-credit-hour fee multiplied by 3 credits (Finan 201 is a 3-credit hour course). For example, if the per credit hour fee is $200, multiply $200 by 3 credits for a total course registration fee of $600.
In addition to the fee for taking this 3-credit hour course, students will be required to purchase one or more textbooks. Information about textbooks can be found on the Boise State University Bookstore's website. The cost of textbooks may vary from semester to semester.

Because the Department of Marketing and Finance presently offers only one real estate course, those seeking a real estate license will need to take the balance of their courses from other educational providers.

The Center for Workforce Training, Boise State University, offers several real estate courses.
Independent Study in Idaho is a consortium of five Idaho colleges and universities offering high school, undergraduate, and graduate courses for credit through distance learning. Courses are accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. This independent study program regularly offers Finan C201 Fundamentals of Real Estate.
Pioneer Real Estate School offers both day and night classes to accommodate all requirements for licensing in Idaho.
ExecuTrain offers real estate courses including real estate appraisal.
